Murray Statement on Nomination of Eugene Scalia as Secretary of Labor “He Is Still the Wrong Choice”

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on July 19, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement on President Trump’s announcement that he is nominating Eugene Scalia to be the Secretary of Labor. Senator Murray opposed Scalia’s nomination to be Solicitor for the Department of Labor back in 2001, citing his anti-worker record.

“I opposed Eugene Scalia’s nomination to the Department of Labor in 2001 because of his hostility towards workplace protections and his positions on workplace harassment and workers’ health and safety. After spending the last 18 years defending corporations who have trampled on the rights of their workers, he is still the wrong choice and President Trump needs to choose another nominee for Secretary of Labor."
