Murray: Rushed Hearing on Labor Nominee Next Week Would Undermine Vetting Process

The following press release was published by the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions on Sept. 12, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), ranking member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, released the following statement regarding the announcement of a Committee confirmation hearing next Thursday for Eugene Scalia, President Trump’s nominee to lead the Department of Labor (DOL).

“If confirmed as Secretary of Labor, Mr. Scalia would have an enormous impact on workers and their families every day as a result of the decisions he makes and the background and perspective he brings to the role. It is critical that our committee has the time we need to thoroughly vet this nominee, just like any other. I believe holding a confirmation hearing next week would significantly undermine our ability to meet our committee’s responsibilities."
