"It was important to follow the strict interpretation of the rules and to once againhold a committee vote on the correct version of the tax legislation today," Baucus said. "Iam pleased that my colleagues shared my view that this was not the place to offeradditional amendments. The will of the committee was already decided and all membershad already had the chance to offer amendments.
It is now time to move forward. Every member will have the opportunity to airtheir views on the Senate floor, where I will continue to push for increased state aid andtax relief for our working families and small businesses, which will most effectivelyboost our economy."
