Baucus Comments on Indian Affairs Committee Report

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on June 22, 2006. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Max Baucus (D-Mont.), Ranking Member of the Senate Finance Committee, issued a brief statement today following publication of a Senate Committee on Indian Affairs report entitled “Gimme Five: Investigation of Tribal Lobbying Matters." The committee’s report included a recommendation that the Finance Committee investigate and hold hearings on the tax activities of some non-profit organizations.

“The Finance Committee continues to review documents provided by the Committee on Indian Affairs and related to non-profit groups with links to Jack Abramoff. This is being done as part of an ongoing, broad-scale look at whether tax-exempt groups are misused for financial or political gain. I expect that the Finance Committee will act as our findings warrant, in keeping with our oversight responsibilities."
