Washington, DC - Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) commented today on the re-nomination of E. Edwin Eck, II to the Internal Revenue Service Oversight Board. Eck’s original nomination was unanimously approved by the Senate on July 8, 2008. He requires Senate confirmation again, as he was appointed in July to a term that began Oct. 1, 2003 andends Sept. 30, 2008. His new term will end Sept. 14, 2013.
“Ed was the right man for the job in July, and he remains the right man for the job today," Baucus said. “It is reassuring to know that the country can continue to profit from his expertise and considerable administrative talents for the next five years so that our taxsystem works the way it should for Montanans and all Americans."
Eck was Dean of the University of Montana Law School. He was raised in Lewistown, Mont., graduated from Carleton College, then went on to obtain a law degree from the University of Montana and an LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University. Eck began teaching at UM in1981 and was appointed Dean in 1995. Baucus, who helped create the IRS Oversight Board in1998, initially encouraged the Montana law and tax expert’s nomination to the panel.
