Grassley: White House Should Distinguish Between Tax Loophole Closers, Increases on Legitimate Business

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on May 11, 2009. It is reproduced in full below.

Sen. Chuck Grassley, ranking member of the Committee on Finance, today made the following comment on new details of the White House’s proposed tax increases andother revenue raisers to help fund health care reform.

“After reading about the President's revenue raisers in press reports a week ago, it's good to get an outline of the proposals and some description of them on paper. We'll have to make inquiries of the Joint Committee on Taxation and compare the scoring. Having taken a quick look, my concerns of a week ago continue. On shutting down tax shelter types of activities, I'll be right there with the President. But if the proposal is in effect a job-killing tax increase on domestic businesses for no good reason, then the President will lose my support."
