The following press release was published by the United States Committee on Finance Ranking Member’s News on Sept. 27, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) joined Maria Bartiromo today to discuss the release of a unified tax reform framework by the Senate Finance Committee, House Ways and Means Committee and Trump administration. On her show, Mornings with Maria, Hatch emphasized the importance of lowering middle-class tax rates, as well as the corporate tax rate to help U.S. businesses compete globally and increase paychecks for hardworking Americans.

On Middle-Class Tax Relief:

“I can live with the highest earners being where they are…It is the middle class and the average worker…we want to bring [their] rates down so that they have a chance of achieving real success in [our] society."

On Lowering the Corporate Tax Rate:

“We make it so it’s almost impossible for American companies to keep their…business in the United States…We need to [lower the corporate rate] so that we can really compete with the rest of the world."

On Bipartisanship:

“I hope we don’t need Democratic votes, but I hope we get them… I think we can hold together the Republicans on this matter."

On Fiscal Responsibility and Revenue Neutrality:

“I don’t think…[revenue neutrality] should be a rigid rule that stops [us] from doing what might be the best thing…for the next five or ten years."
