Wyden Statement on Decision Striking Down Medicaid Work Requirements

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on March 27, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement after a District Court judge ruled Medicaid work requirements in Kentucky and Arkansas are illegal:

“This ruling is a victory for working families that were being crushed by mountains of burdensome and unnecessary paperwork designed to take away their health care," Wyden said. “Medicaid was created as a way for vulnerable Americans to get the care they need, not as a testing ground for ideological, anti-health care experiments. There will be more work in the days ahead to ensure this ruling stands, but now it is clear that this cruel scheme is on the wrong side of the law."
