Wyden Statement on District Court Ruling Blocking IRS Dark Money Rule

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on July 31, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement in reaction to a ruling by the Montana district court blocking IRS repeal of nonprofit donor reporting requirements:

“The Treasury Department broke every rule in the book to repeal donor reporting requirements and open the floodgates to illegal dark and foreign money flowing through organizations like the NRA and Chamber of Commerce to influence U.S. elections. Secretary Mnuchin refused to accept public comments, ignored law enforcement experts at the IRS and attempted to block Congress from overturning the rule. This process was rotten all the way through. Our courts are the backstop against this administration’s lawless actions, and the Montana district court’s ruling to block dark money is welcome news."
