Wyden Statement on Labor Department Ensuring Access to Jobless Benefits

The following press release was published by the United States Senate Committee on Finance Chairman's News on Feb. 25, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

Senate Finance Committee Chair Ron Wyden, D-Ore., today released the following statement on the Labor Department’s moves to ensure access to jobless benefits:

“I pushed the Labor Department throughout last year to ensure workers whose health was at risk due to unsafe conditions, and workers who turned down job offers in unsafe conditions, would be able to receive jobless benefits. Former Secretary Scalia was no champion of working people, so President Biden’s inauguration was essential to finally securing this change. It’s great news that these workers are not going to be forced to choose between their health-and the health of their family members-and their ability to pay rent and buy groceries."
