Ways and Means Postpones Consideration of Andean Trade Preferences

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on June 19, 2007. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles B. Rangel (D-NY) issued the following remarks today on the status of legislation to extend trade preferences to Andean nations:

“After speaking with Ranking Member McCrery, we have decided to postpone consideration of legislation to extend existing Andean trade preferences, pending resolution of outstanding issues with the Senate Finance Committee. It is our intention to get back to this bill as soon as possible - hopefully next week, since we are running up against a June 30 expiration for the current program and we may have to use the suspension calendar to reach our goal."
