Levin -- Statement on Blueprint for an America Built to Last

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Jan. 25, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today issued the following statement after President Obama unveiled his Blueprint for an America Built to Last:

“The President was right on when he said last night ‘that we have a huge opportunity, at this moment, to bring manufacturing back.’ The proposals released today in the Blueprint hit that mark. American manufacturers are playing a key role in our economic recovery and we should be providing more incentives for them to build on that success and help to restore the 6.5 million jobs lost during the deep and long recession. We are at a vital moment in advanced energy manufacturing and we must invest in the future and not sit idly by while other nations unfairly subsidize their domestic industries at our expense. Companies should not be encouraged to send jobs overseas. It is time we shifted that emphasis entirely so that we reward the companies that create jobs here at home."
