WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) and Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Jim McDermott (D-WA) today released the following statements on the Senate’s confirmation of Marilyn Tavenner to be Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services:

Rep. Levin: “Today’s bipartisan Senate vote to confirm Marilyn Tavenner fills an important post at the top of the agency that provides health care to almost one in three Americans. As a nurse and a health system administrator, Ms. Tavenner brings to CMS a wealth of insight and real-world experience to meet the challenges of managing the day-to-day operations of Medicare and Medicaid, and implementing important delivery system reforms. I look forward to continue working with Ms. Tavenner as CMS oversees the implementation of key provisions of the health care reform law."

Rep. McDermott: “I congratulate Marilyn Tavenner on her confirmation as CMS Administrator. With the confirmation of the first CMS Administrator in seven years, the American people will have a stable, strong leader and dedicated public servant steering the agency through a critical period of Affordable Care Act implementation. She will be an excellent steward of the Medicare, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Programs and, I look forward to working with her. "
