WASHINGTON - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today made the following statement regarding legislation the Ways and Means Committee will consider Thursday to patch the Highway Trust Fund through May 31:
“Through their complete inaction during their three-plus years in the majority, House Republicans have been running out the clock on the Highway Trust Fund, putting American jobs and highways at risk. Despite repeated requests from Democrats, the Ways and Means Committee has not held a single hearing on financing options for the Highway Trust Fund. Americans deserve a long-term solution from this Congress that provides certainty for municipalities and construction workers alike and addresses our nation’s overwhelming infrastructure needs."
Ways and Means Democrats sent letters to Chairman Camp requesting hearings on the Highway Trust Fund in January and June of this year.
