Levin, Pallone, Scott: Five Years in, the ACA is Working

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on March 23, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Today, the top Democrats from the Ways and Means, Energy and Commerce, and Education and the Workforce committees issued a joint statement marking the five year anniversary of the Affordable Care Act. Ways and Means Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI), Energy and Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), and Education and the Workforce Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-VA) are the head Democrats on the committees with jurisdiction over the Affordable Care Act.

“Five years ago, our nation moved away from an increasingly expensive health care system that allowed insurers to kick Americans off of their insurance plans when they got sick, to a system with vital protections and more affordable and accessible coverage for everyone. Today, health care costs are growing at the slowest rate on record and the percentage of uninsured Americans is the lowest in 50 years. People no longer need to fear being denied insurance because of preexisting conditions, or being charged more simply because they are a woman. The Affordable Care Act is working, plain and simple."
