House Passes Bill to Protect Religious Liberty under Obamacare

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Sept. 29, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2061, the Equitable Access to Care and Health (EACH) Act, introduced by Rep. Rodney Davis (R-IL) to expand the religious-liberty exemption to Obamacare’s individual mandate. Upon passage, House Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan (R-WI) issued the following statement.

“We shouldn’t force anybody to buy health insurance against their will-and especially against their faith. But Obamacare forces people to buy a plan-even if they don’t use health care because of their religious beliefs. This bill says if you don’t use health care as a matter of faith, then you are exempt from the individual mandate-simple as that. I’m proud to support this long-overdue change to protect the religious liberties of all Americans, and I thank Rep. Davis for making it a priority."
