Levin: House Republicans Must Join Democrats to Protect Affordable Health Coverage for Seniors

WASHINGTON, DC - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today - as Medicare open enrollment began - urged House Republicans to take up legislation to prevent substantial Medicare premium increases for seniors and people with disabilities. In July, the Medicare Trustees projected that monthly Medicare Part B premiums will increase by more than 50 percent for approximately 16 million beneficiaries in 2016.

“Medicare is a critical program for millions of Americans, providing affordable health insurance to seniors and individuals with disabilities who need it most," said Rep. Levin. “But if Congress fails to act, nearly a third of beneficiaries will see dramatic increases in their monthly Part B premiums. House Democrats have introduced legislation to address this issue and it’s critical that Republicans now join the effort to immediately resolve this problem. Sixteen million Americans are relying on Congress to act now."
