Levin Statement on Latest Health Exchange Enrollment Figures

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Feb. 4, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that 12.7 million Americans selected health insurance plans through state and federal marketplaces during the latest open enrollment period:

“The numbers today confirm that the ACA is working. Exceeding expectations, 12.7 million Americans signed up for coverage through health insurance exchanges.

“Behind the true numbers are innumerable stories of what the ACA has meant in human terms, like for the woman with breast cancer I met last weekend. She said that the new coverage she obtained through the ACA was a life saver, after losing her job and prior health insurance. House Republicans who tried once again earlier this week to gut the ACA should begin to listen to the millions of newly-insured Americans instead of a numbing ideology."
