Roskam Announces Oversight Subcommittee Hearing on “Health Care Fraud Investigations”

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on Sept. 22, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Ways and Means Oversight Subcommittee Chairman Peter Roskam (R-IL) today announced that the Subcommittee will hold a hearing entitled “Health Care Fraud Investigations" on Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 10:00 AM in room 1100 of the Longworth House Office Building. The hearing will focus on how the federal government investigates and prosecutes fraud and improper payments, particularly within the Medicare program.

Upon announcing the hearing, Chairman Roskam said:

“Medicare is one of many important programs Americans count on for quality health care options. Unfortunately, Medicare is so susceptible to fraud that it’s directing billions of taxpayer dollars toward improper and fraudulent payments each year instead of toward the millions of patients who are truly in need of care. We refuse to stand by as cheaters defraud Medicare, leaving taxpayers and beneficiaries holding the bag. I look forward to hearing about how the government is working to fight fraud and collaborate with local law enforcement to target criminals abusing Medicare."
