WASHINGTON, DC - Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Richard Neal (D-MA) and Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today released the following statements after President Obama nominated Jason Kearns, Chief International Trade Counsel for the Committee’s Democratic staff, to serve on the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC):
“Jason has been an invaluable part of the Ways and Means trade staff for more than a decade, and has built a knowledge base that is second-to-none," said Ranking Member Neal. “He understands the importance for our nation’s trade deals to be crafted in a way that spreads the benefits of trade to all Americans, and has been a vocal proponent of ensuring our trade agreements are properly and rigorously enforced. I urge the Senate to consider Jason’s nomination as I know he will be a strong addition to the International Trade Commission."
“Jason Kearns is a smart, talented, principled trade lawyer with an incredible work ethic," said Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Levin. “He is an advocate for strong trade remedy laws and a level playing field for US businesses and workers. His policy advice has been indispensable for the entire Ways and Means Committee and he has strong respect for Congress's role in crafting trade policy. When confirmed, he will be a strong voice on the ITC."
