WASHINGTON, DC-Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) was named Chair of the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) for the first session of the 117th Congress. Founded in 1926, the JCT is a bicameral, non-partisan committee that plays an essential role in the formation of United States tax policy. The Chairman released the following statement on his new role:

“It’s a great honor and privilege to once again serve as Chair of the Joint Committee on Taxation, an invaluable resource for tax writers on Capitol Hill. This Congress presents an extraordinary opportunity to welcome in a new era for the tax code and I am thrilled to do this work alongside my fellow Ways and Means Committee colleagues, Representatives Lloyd Doggett and Mike Thompson. Together, we will craft new policies and improve upon existing tax law to ensure the tax code is working equitably for all Americans."
