WASHINGTON, DC- Today, House Ways and Means Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after President Biden nominated Health Subcommittee Deputy Staff Director and professional tax staffer, Melanie Anne Egorin, Ph.D, to serve as the next Assistant Secretary of Legislation at the Department of Health and Human Services:
“Melanie Anne Egorin is an excellent choice to lead the legislative affairs office at the Department of Health and Human Services. Her time with Ways and Means is filled with many accomplishments, including her most recent contributions to improving insurance affordability in the American Rescue Plan. Melanie’s belief that government only works when it is working for the people and her steadfast commitment to improving America’s health shines through in her work.
“While I am very sad to see Melanie leave Ways and Means, I look forward to continuing to work with her in her new capacity. As the Biden Administration guides our recovery from the pandemic and seeks to advance an ambitious agenda tackling health equity, affordability, uninsurance, and health workforce, Melanie will be an honorable and effective representative for the Department with Congress."
