Chairman Neal: “The time is now, and our work continues”

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on March 12, 2021. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC-Following instructions from Speaker Pelosi to begin working on an infrastructure and jobs package, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement on the Committee’s role:

“We have made history with the American Rescue Plan and as soon as this weekend, Americans will begin to feel the relief we have sent their way. President Biden was clear that a rescue package would be followed in short order by a recovery plan, and the Ways and Means Committee stands ready to heed his call and build back better. At Speaker Pelosi’s request, we are exploring how we can use the tax code to invest in modernizing and uplifting our communities while creating good jobs that will get Americans back on their feet. Building on the popularity of the American Rescue Plan, it is my sincere hope that our Republican colleagues will join us at the negotiating table so together, we can deliver a package that benefits all our constituents.

“The time is now, and our work continues."
