WASHINGTON, DC- Today, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) released the following statement after an agreement was reached to address allegations of worker rights concerns under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement’s (USMCA) Rapid Response Labor Mechanism (RRM):

“We applaud the Biden Administration and Ambassador Tai on reaching an agreement under the USMCA Rapid Response Mechanism to address allegations of the denial of worker rights at the Tridonex auto parts facility in Mexico. Yesterday’s announcement demonstrates the importance of having effective enforcement tools in our trade agreements, and this is exactly why we led the House Democrats’ charge to rethink our approach to trade enforcement and improve the USMCA. With this important step, we are safeguarding worker rights and holding our trading partners accountable for the commitments they have made.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Ambassador Tai and the Biden Administration to ensure that the rights of workers at the Tridonex facility are protected and that the USMCA is aggressively enforced at workplaces across our supply chains."
