Advisory: Thu, 12/20/2007

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Dec. 20, 2007. It is reproduced in full below.

Dear Mr. President.

It gives me great pleasure to congratulate you on your election as president of the Republic of Korea. It is clear that the Korean people have selected a man of intellect, vision and pragmatism to lead Korea during this dynamic time in your country’s history.

For over fifty years, the U.S.-Republic of Korea partnership has helped maintain peace and spur dramatic economic development in East Asia. As our shared interests have grown, so has our mutual respect and admiration. We enjoy a close political relationship, a strong strategic alliance and a deep personal friendship, and I look forward to working with you to further the ties between our two countries.

Please feel free to call on me if I can be of any assistance.

Sincerely,

TOM LANTOS

Chairman
