Howard Berman Statement on IAEA Director General Report regarding Iran’s Nuclear Program

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Aug. 30, 2012. It is reproduced in full below.

Valley Village, CA - U.S. Rep. Howard L. Berman, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement regarding the IAEA Director General Report regarding Iran’s nuclear program. The statement follows.

“Today’s report by the IAEA again underscores Iran’s attempts to deceive the world about its illicit nuclear weapons activities. Iran is apparently actively destroying evidence at a suspected nuclear site while continuing to enhance its ability to produce enriched uranium in a form to bring it closer to a nuclear weapon.

“Iran has time and again torpedoed any reasonable attempt to resolve the world’s grave concerns through diplomacy. U.S. and international sanctions are beginning to bite deeply, but not enough yet to convince Tehran that it is on a ruinous course. By spurning international talks and advancing its nuclear program, Iran is closing the window on a peaceful solution."
