WASHINGTON, DC-Representative Eliot L. Engel, the leading Democrat on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today made the following statement regarding the situation in Iraq.
"The suffering that ISIS is raining down upon Iraqi civilians is intolerable, and I support the President’s relief effort. Reports tell us that Kurds and others in northern Iraq are bearing the brunt of ISIS's brutal assault, and that Maliki's government has done little to protect this population. The President has said, ‘The United States of America cannot turn a blind eye.' I agree."
