Chairman Royce Announces Hearing to Examine U.S. Policy in Syria

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Oct. 29, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - Today, U.S. Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, announced that on Wednesday, November 4, the Committee will convene a hearing that examines U.S. policy in Syria. The hearing, entitled “U.S. Policy After Russia’s Escalation in Syria, " will begin at 10 a.m.

Chairman Royce on the hearing: “As Russia ramps up its military intervention in Syria, the Obama Administration is ever deeper on the sideline. Meanwhile, opposition forces are the targets of increasing attacks coordinated by the Assad regime. In a strategy hatched during Iranian nuclear negotiations, it is the Russians in the air and the Iranians and their proxies on the ground. While ISIS remains largely unscathed, the humanitarian crisis only gets worse.

“This hearing will focus on the Administration’s plans for Syria, including its policy regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s rapidly growing efforts to expand his influence in the Middle East."
