Chairman Royce on Enactment of Electrify Africa, International Megan’s Law

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on Feb. 8, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) this evening applauded enactment of two committee priorities - the Electrify Africa Act and International Megan’s Law.

“I am pleased these two bipartisan bills are now law. Enactment of Electrify Africa stands to improve the lives of millions in sub-Saharan Africa by helping to reduce reliance on charcoal and other toxic fuel sources that produce fumes that kill more than HIV/AIDS and malaria combined. This legislation, which will promote development of affordable and reliable energy, isn’t just good for Africa. Electrify Africa also means new opportunities for U.S. job creators looking to compete in the continent’s growing markets. And it has long been a priority of mine.

“I also want to thank Rep. Chris Smith for his hard work on the International Megan’s Law. This critical legislation will improve information sharing between the United States and foreign partners to provide law enforcement agencies with new resources in the fight against human trafficking and child sex tourism.".
