Readout of Engel Call with Australia's Ambassador

WASHINGTON-Representative Eliot L. Engel, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today spoke with Australia's Ambassador to the United States Joe Hockey. Representative Engel expressed his deep concern over the recent strain in the relationship between the United States and Australia and conveyed his hope and belief that it will not make a lasting impact. Representative Engel and the Ambassador shared views on the importance of the longstanding cooperation between the countries on security and other issues. Representative Engel also informed the Ambassador of his intention to introduce a resolution reaffirming the strong friendship between the United States and Australia.
