Chairman Ros-Lehtinen on the hearing: “For too long the U.S. has shirked its responsibility as a leader in the Middle East, a region rife with conflict, crises and instability, leaving our allies and our interests vulnerable. The current Administration has shown a willingness to engage but lacks a clear and concise strategy to counter Iran’s destabilizing efforts, deal with the humanitarian crises in Syria and Yemen, or address the ongoing instability in Libya and Lebanon. This hearing will allow Members to assess how the Administration’s FY 2019 budget proposal matches its priorities and objectives and if the proposed budget will advance U.S. interests in the region."
