McCaul on the Release of Americans Illegally Detained in Venezuela

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs on March 9. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. - House Foreign Affairs Committee Lead Republican Michael McCaul released a statement following the announcement that two American hostages were freed from Venezuela.

“Today America welcomes home two hostages held in Venezuela. As we celebrate their release, we must not forget the other eight Americans still detained by the brutal Maduro regime. While I applaud the Biden administration for the resolution of this case, the President must not compensate Maduro for their release. The capture of American hostages must never become a winning strategy for dictators.".
