Chairman Thompson Reacts to Attorney General's Decision on Independent Counsel

Washington, DC -- Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Fred Thompson (R-TN) today issued the following statement on Attorney General Janet Reno’s decision not to seek the appointment of an independent counsel regarding testimony Harold Ickes gave to the Committee:

“The demise of the independent counsel law when it expires this year may be the most notable ‘achievement’ of her tenure as Attorney General."
