LIEBERMAN STATEMENT ON PHIL REITINGER RESIGNATION

The following press release was published by the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on May 18, 2011. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON-Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman, ID-Conn., released the following statement Wednesday on Phil Reitinger’s resignation as Deputy Under Secretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate:

“Deputy Under Secretary Reitinger has been instrumental in building the Department’s cyber capabilities and in bringing an excellent leadership team on board. The Department has made tremendous strides in its cyber capabilities over the past few years, and Phil’s energy and expertise will be missed. The Department does, however, have a deep bench. I am confident that Under Secretary Rand Beers and Assistant Secretary Greg Schaffer - who becomes acting Deputy Under Secretary for National Protection and Programs Directorate - will ably oversee DHS’s cyber efforts. I also know Bobbie Stempfley, the current director of the National Cybersecurity Division, will be a capable Acting Assistant Secretary for Cybersecurity and Communications until Phil’s successor is found."
