Johnson Comments on ISIS-Related Charges Against Madison Man

The following press release was published by the U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs on April 9, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), made these remarks upon news reports that a Madison man has been accused of trying to travel to the Middle East to join ISIS:

“I wish to convey my appreciation for the vigilance and efforts of all the law enforcement and public safety officials involved in Mr. Van Haften's surveillance and apprehension. While Mr. Van Haften’s guilt or innocence must still be determined by courts, the early details cited in this case serve as a reminder that Islamic terrorism spreading throughout the world poses a real and growing threat to America. This case and other recent cases remind us that everyone must remain vigilant and can assist in fighting terrorism: If you see something, say something."
