House Committee on Agriculture Chairman Bob Goodlatte today issued the following statement regarding the agreement between the U.S. and the Russian Federation confirming a previous understanding allowing for specified access for U.S. poultry, beef and pork into the Russian market:
“I would like to commend U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman and Chief Agricultural Negotiator Allen Johnson on their diligence and hard work in negotiating the agreement signed this week between the U.S. and Russia. This agreement will not only create stronger trade relations between Russia and the U.S., it will also provide market access for U.S. producers. Although Russia remains the top export market for U.S. poultry, exports to the country have declined due to recent restrictions. This agreement will stabilize the export market for U.S. poultry, pork and beef producers. American agriculture is dependent on access to global markets and a vibrant trade policy."
