Neal Applauds Biden Administration’s Increased Duties on Russian Goods

The following press release was published by the U.S. Congress Committee on Ways and Means on June 28. It is reproduced in full below.

SPRINGFIELD, MA-House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement after the Biden Administration announced it will raise duties on select products from Russia in the new G7 economic sanctions package:

“The United States is escalating our pressure on Russia to continue holding them responsible for their ghastly assault on Ukraine. The Ways and Means Committee granted President Biden the authority to increase tariffs on imports from Russia, as we sought to strengthen the economic tools at our disposal to counter their unconscionable war against Ukraine. We remain committed to working with our allies and partners to further weaken Russia, to put an end to their campaign of terror, and to restore peace in the region."

The Ways and Means Committee led legislation to suspend normal trade relations with Russia and Belarus in March 2022.
