CHICAGO-The U.S Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) proposes a $122,000 civil penalty against Trans States Airlines, Inc., of Bridgeton, Mo., for allegedly operating an aircraft that was not in compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations.
The agency alleges that Trans States failed to test and inspect an Embraer EMB-145 jet’s fuel system components within the timeframe required by an FAA Airworthiness Directive. The purpose of the Airworthiness Directive is to prevent anything from igniting in the fuel system.
The FAA alleges Trans States operated the jet on 10 passenger flights when it was not in compliance with the Airworthiness Directive and therefore was not airworthy.
Trans States is scheduled to meet with the FAA in mid-February to discuss the case.
