SPRINGFIELD, MA- House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard E. Neal (D-MA) released the following statement mourning the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe:

“This is a shocking and terrible tragedy, and a great unifier has been lost. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was a devoted public servant, earning the deep respect of his country and the world. He was an exceptional partner throughout his years of service, bringing our nations closer, and supporting peace and rules-based international regimes. I send my deepest condolences to his loved ones, the people of Japan, and to all mourning his disturbing and untimely death."
