WASHINGTON, D.C., Jan. 27, 2010 - House Natural Resources Committee Ranking Member Doc Hastings (WA-04) released the following statement following passage of H.R. 3726, a bill to establish the Castle Nugent Historic Site on St. Croix in the Virgin Islands:

“Today, the Democrat Majority tossed fiscal discipline out the window by passing a bill to spend $50 million on a new park in the Caribbean. To say that this Democrat Congress has misplaced priorities would be an understatement. Families across America are struggling to pay their bills and millions of people are searching for work. They don’t need Congress to spend millions of dollars on beach-front property that most Americans won’t have the luxury of visiting.

“During tonight’s State of the Union Address, the President is expected to speak about the need to freeze spending and tackle the trillion dollar deficit. If he’s looking for ways to eliminate wasteful spending, this bill would be a good place to start."
