WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee, released the following statement after Chairman Hastings agreed to Rep. Markey's call to have BP, Cameron, Halliburton, Transocean - the main companies involved in the BP oil spill - testify before the Committee on the BOEMRE/U.S. Coast Guard Joint Investigation Team Report.
"I am pleased that Chairman Hastings has agreed to my request to have the companies being investigated in the BP oil spill testify before the Committee, and I hope that he will insist that the companies send their CEOs to this important hearing. The American people deserve a full hearing on the actions which caused of this spill that devastated the Gulf Coast and resulted in the loss of 11 lives. I look forward to both the investigators and the companies answering questions about the Joint Investigative Team Report."
