Natural Resources Democrats to Hold Hearing on Republican Offshore Drilling Bill

Natural Resources Democrats to Hold Hearing on Republican Offshore Drilling Bill

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Natural Resources on June 10, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - House Republicans are pushing the latest version of their “drill, baby, drill" agenda of offshore drilling, but not before Natural Resources Democrats ensure all voices are heard. Tomorrow, Democrats on the committee will hear from several witnesses, including a member of the BP Spill Commission, about the potential pitfalls of handing over our coastlines to oil companies without new safety standards having ever been passed in Congress.

Democrats called the hearing because Republicans have rammed HR 2231, their offshore giveaway bill, through the committee without allowing a full discussion of the impacts of the legislation. Democrats invoked the “Rule XI" clause, which allows them to call a second day of hearings.
