WASHINGTON, D.C. - In advance of their first idea forum today, the chairs of the Task Force on Restoring Constitutional Authority released their mission statement. This mission statement, laying out the goals of the task force, marks the next step in the development of a bold, pro-growth agenda that Republicans will present to the country in the coming months.
Republican leaderslaunched the development of this agenda in January, announcing that it will address five issue areas: national security; jobs and the economy; health care; poverty, opportunity, and upward mobility; and restoring constitutional authority. Taking a bottom-up approach,committee-led task forces will develop this agenda, holding idea forums to take input and ideas from all members.

Mission Statement: Restore appropriate balance among the branches of government as our Founding Fathers intended by reasserting the unique constitutional role of Congress, which represents the voices of the American people. In order to achieve this goal, the Restoring Constitutional Authority Taskforce shall seek to prevent abuse of power by the executive branch, promote limited government and protect states’ powers, and ensure government transparency and accountability.
Policy Goals:Develop new tools and strengthen and effectively utilize existing tools to:
* reform the rulemaking process;
* reestablish and enforce limits on agency authority;
* exercise the power of the purse; and
* conduct more robust oversight of agency regulation, enforcement practices, and waste, fraud and abuse.
