TAOS, N.M. - The Bureau of Land Management will be conducting a 650-acre prescribed burn in the Copperhill Management Area, located 2-3 miles west of Peñasco, New Mexico. The prescribed burn will be conducted for up to 30 days beginning Oct. 1. Smoke may be visible from highway NM 75.
The purpose of the project is to improve forest health in ponderosa pine and piñon/juniper, by reducing flammable accumulations of vegetation and reintroducing fire to a fire-dependent ecosystem.
