Statement on Security for Statue of Liberty National Monument

The following press release was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service on June 4, 2013. It is reproduced in full below.

We remain committed to implementing a plan that does not compromise the safety of our visitors or the security of this iconic American symbol. Safety will continue to be our number one priority as we re-establish a temporary screening facility at Battery Park. We are prepared to begin work immediately and appreciate the partnership with the City of New York that we will need to allow for a reopening of the Statue on July 4.
