Tiffany: Biden administration 'wedded to a feckless, 1970s-era One China Policy'

Rep. Tom Tiffany, (R-Wis.) said that U.S. foreign policy must uphold Taiwan as a free country that is independent of China and its outdated “One China Policy,” saying the United States can no longer allow Beijing to grow rich off of our fence-sitting.

“Taiwan is a free and independent country that has never been part of Communist China, and U.S. policy should reflect that. Yet the Biden administration remains wedded to a feckless, 1970s-era, ‘One China Policy’ that – no matter how they want to dress it up – has only made Beijing’s rulers richer, more oppressive, and more dangerous than ever,” Tiffany, (R-Wis.) said, according to a statement provided to State Newswire. “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. If we want better results, we have to change the policy.”

The Biden Administration's strategy toward the Peoples' Republic of China is threefold: 1) investing in foundational strengths at home – our competitiveness, innovation, resilience, and democracy, 2) aligning these efforts with our allies to make sure we're acting with a common purpose and cause, and 3) compete responsibly with the PRC to defend our interests and build our vision of the future, according to the National Security Strategy.

Tiffany is a co-sponsor of H.R.4792, the Countering Communist China Act. This bill would serve to counter the malign influence and theft perpetuated by the People’s Republic of China and the Chinese Communist Party, according to its text.

Tiffany is on the House Judiciary Committee with sub-committee assignments that cover Intellectual Property, Homeland Security, and Immigration, his website said.

He is a member of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus, which is the largest Congressional Member Organization in the United States Congress with 229 members and focuses exclusively on improving American–Taiwanese relations.
