The following press release was published by the U.S. Dept. of Energy, Office of Legacy Management on Sept. 18, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

On Sept. 13, LM Deputy Director Thomas Pauling participated in a panel at the Energy Communities Alliance 2017 National Cleanup Workshop in Alexandria, Virginia. The panel was titled "Future Uses for EM (Environmental Management) Sites." Pauling spoke about challenges associated with reusing properties that once served as defense nuclear sites. He stated that LM proactively addresses land transfer challenges by consulting with the DOE Office of Environmental Management early in the land transfer process, and that LM strives for transparency when it comes to advising communities about the Department’s site plans.
