Airlines for America recently announced its commitment to improving accessibility and services for passengers with disabilities.

According to a release, one of the fastest growing traveler segments are passengers with disabilities. This highlights the "importance of facilitating a safe, seamless journey for them."

"A4A’s members fully support the rights of passengers with disabilities set forth in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Airline Passengers with Disabilities Bill of Rights, especially the right to be treated with dignity and respect. We recognize the need for a specific commitment to remove barriers to safe, accessible air travel," Airlines for America said in the release.

The release was signed by the CEOs of American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines Holdings, Alaska Air Group and Hawaiian Airlines, according to the release.

"Glad to see airlines responding to passengers with disabilities who have been speaking up about their needs. These are positive steps, but a lot of work remains to be done," U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in a statement.

The release states Airlines for America member airlines will work to establish a passenger accessibility advisory group to work directly with the disability community to improve policies and operations; improve passenger transfers and the handling of personal mobility aids; enhance accessibility services training for frontline workers and educating

employees about passengers with disabilities; and support the continued study and development of safe and feasible aircraft accessibility features that broaden air travel opportunities for passengers with disabilities.

The industry has been involved in a variety of initiatives to increase air travel accessibility, the release reported. The commitment is a step forward in strengthening its dedication to

enhancing the travel experience for all passengers.
