Austin, TX - House Foreign Affairs Committee Ranking Member Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Chairman Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY) along with Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Jim Risch (R-ID) and Chairman Bob Menendez (D-NJ) released the below statement in observance of the one-year anniversary of the coup in Sudan.
“We stand in solidarity with the Sudanese people and their tireless efforts to establish a democratic government in Sudan and call on the military junta to relinquish power to a civilian-led transition. We support those who have come together to draft and advance a constitutional framework and urge all stakeholders to ensure the proposal, and the process for its adoption, are acceptable to a broad range of civil society. Those responsible for abuses perpetrated against Sudanese peacefully advocating for a transition to democracy must be held accountable for their actions."
