Washington, DC - Today, Representative Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY), Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, departed on a bipartisan congressional delegation to Palau, Papua New Guinea, and Australia to bolster engagement and partnership in the region.
The delegation includes Representatives Peter Meijer (R-MI), Sara Jacobs (D-CA), Rodney Davis (R-IL), G.K. Butterfield (D-NC), and Tom Suozzi (D-NY).
On both island nations, the delegation will meet with government officials to discuss bilateral ties, climate change, and efforts to support economic growth and resilience. In Australia, Members will meet with government officials to discuss regional security and economic ties, including on AUKUS and Quad cooperation, as well as joint work to combat the climate crisis and strengthen political and economic resilience in the Pacific Islands. The delegation will also visit INDOPACOM headquarters in Hawaii to discuss U.S. military engagement and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
